NEW MANAGER of Market Bosworth 2000 Football Club, Mark Smith faced a very long journey, starting at 9.00am, for his first game. Smith handing starting a debut to Callum Duncan in a midfield trio with Alesbrook & Holdsworth.
At the start of the week the Bosworth faithful were told that Chris Plant would no longer be playing for the club due to work commitments. This was confirmed prior to his last match in the red and black of Market Bosworth. Plant started on the bench with four new signings, Hoult, Humphreys, Taylor & Matharu .
The game started brightly with both teams going close. Smith whipping a ball in from the left with Alesbrook just heading over the bar. At the other end, the home side caused lots o trouble with a lightening paced left back, his crosses tested the centre back pairing of J Horton & J Holmes. But it was the goalkeeper A Horton that kept the Division two side in the game with a string of fine saves.
The away side seemed to fumble their way through the last 20 minutes of the first half when a lack of pre season games and match fitness started to show. With wide players Smith & Butler seeing less of the ball and Howell becoming iccolated up front on his own. Bosworth still had their chances though, with long range efforts from Alesbrook and Howell testing the Lutterworth keeper.
Into the second half and Smith started to ring the changes. Debuts for James Humphreys (10 minutes before the second half) on for Dave Holmes, Andy Hoult on for Callum Duncan and Nile Taylor on for Mark Smith. Also Tony Peace came on for Tony Learoyd at right back.
The second half didn't start so well for Bosworth, when the Lutterworth left back pulled the ball back on the edge of the area and a scrappy shot beat A Horton. New Gaffer, Smith, changed the system pushing Hoult up front and bringing on Mathura (for his debut) on for Holdsworth and Plant (for his last game) on for D Howell. The height and power added a new dimension for Bosworth and chances seemed to come, however, that 'little bit of luck' just didn't seem to be there. Butler and Alesbrook both going close, but not really testing the keeper.
D Holmes reappeared for Bosworth in place of injuried J Horton, however, D Holmes was not at fully strength and due to this Lutterworth made a snatch and grab second goal. The home side left winger ghosting past D Holmes and smashing the ball past A Horton. Bosworth had their chances to get back into the game, Matharu smashing the bar from a free-kick 25 yards out and Butler just missing the follow up. Hoult had his chance as well, blasting through the home side defence, but opted to pass instead of shooting, something Smith will hope to knock out him in the future.
The match ending in a 2-0 defeat for Market Bosworth, but lots of positives to take from the game. The performances of Andy Hoult, Tony Peace and goalkeeper Adam Horton, the pick of the bunch. Smith stated after the game; 'Although the scoreline suggests that it was comfortable win for Lutterworth FC, it was far from it. We had the fair share of possession, especially in the second half when we controlled the game. I thought the new lads played particularly well; Desh, Nile, Andy and Jimmy all giving a good account of themselves. The midfield trio excites me as well, I think there is a lot to come from them!' 'Thanks to Tim Wilson for refereeing, he had a good game. Also good luck to Chris [Plant], hopefully we will have him back around December, but we'll have to wait & see. I can also confirm that Callum Duncan is out for 3 weeks due to work commitments'
