A DRUNKEN Bosworth 2000 manager turned up to lead his troops to a defeat in the final pre-season game, ready for Westfield Wanderers next weekend. Handing starting debuts for Andy Hoult, Andesh Matharu and Nile Taylor, after all impressed against Lutterworth last weekend. Also youth team keeper Richard Bell earned his first senior call up, after assistant manager Adam Horton was off scouting in Leeds.
The home side started well creating several chances against a Premier League outfit, hoping to push for championship glory. Andy Hoult having the best of the opportunities, one on one with keeper after a denfence spliting pass for skipper Alesbrook, only to see his weak shot resemble a back pass and roll easy into the keeper welcoming arms.
AFC Lounge Bar then opened up a two goal lead, both from break aways, leaving the Bosworth defence stranded on both occasions. The home side then had a great opportunity to get back in the game, with a surging run from the ever impressive Michael Butler. His shot was luckly cleared off the line by the away sides full back. Bosworth 2000 had more of the opportunities, even though AFC Lounge Bar had plenty of possession. Alesbrooks header being theatrically saved and debutant Taylor's effort being palmed away by the keeper (with a save for the cameras).
At the start of the second half, Josh Lewin, Danny Bell and still drunk Mark Smith made way for Tony Peace, Tony Learoyd and Phil Holdsworth respectively. Changing the formation from 4-5-1 to 4-4-1-1, captain marvel Alesbrook playing just behind Hoult. The home side seemed to settle better, when a cracking cross field ball from Matharu picked out the flying Butler. His measured cross picked out Alesbrook, who headed home; opening his account for his season. The fight back was short lived when a missed timed tackle from the Gaffer, let the away side in who chipped the on rushing youth team keeper Richard Ball. Who was unlucky to have conceded three goals.
Bosworth had the chance to get right back in the game, when Taylor found Alesbrook who rounded the keeper but blasted the ball well wide of the open goal! Disaster! Johnny Horton then made way for Josh Hurst, who was making his final appearance before moving to University. With 20 minutes to go, Hoult received a hefty challenge from behind and had to make way for self proclaimed striker Tony Learoyd. The Bosworth faithful didn't have to wait long for the deadly striker to make his presence known. Alesbrook steamed from the tiring Lounge Bar defence his shot squirmed its way into the path of Learoyd, who made not mistake from 5 yards out. 'A deadly strike', Learoyd called it! AFC Lounge Bar made it 5-2 in the dying minutes, but by then Bosworth 2000 had called it a lost caused and were just waiting for the final whistle.
Wesatfield Wanderers await the Bosworth Barmy Army, for teh first game of the season. Smith says 'its vital they get off to a winning start, even though we are looking to rebuild this season. We don't play to be second best, we got out every week to win. This is no different.'
